Pierre Alechinsky is a major actor of the contemporary Belgian and French art scene. Pierre Alechinsky is part of the avant-garde movement CoBrA, defending the principles of unbridled spontaneity and refusal of specialization. Pierre Alechinsky also represents the painting with “marginal remarks” where the central image is surrounded by vignettes whose interaction with the painting completes and supplements its meaning. Pierre Alechinsky produced a remarkable work that mixes expressionism with surrealism. Pierre Alechinsky used all possible techniques – etching, lithography, engraving, aquatint etc. – on various media and also illustrated many books. Born in Brussels in 1927, Pierre Alechinsky lives in Paris.
